Clinical features and management of recurrent balanitis; association with atopy and genital washing.

by Tally on November 30, 2009
Visit http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1195128/?tool=pmcentrez

Study published in Genitourin Med. (currently Sexually Transmitted Infections), 1993 October; 69(5): 400–403. This study shows that using soap to wash under the foreskin contributes to balanitis.

For 72% of the patients with recurrent balinitis, "a diagnosis of irritant dermatitis was made. In comparison with the remaining patients, they had a greater lifetime incidence of atopic illness and more frequent daily genital washing with soap. For 28 (90%) of these patients, use of emollient creams and restriction of soap washing alone controlled symptoms satisfactorily."

Sexual Functions of the Foreskin

by Tally on November 29, 2009
Visit http://www.sexasnatureintendedit.com/10F/Foreskin_Function.html

A page on the Sex as Nature Intended It website describing the sexual function of the foreskin. This page provides simple tests that people can take to see how the foreskin functions. For example, the page describes how to feel the difference between fine touch nerves and pressure sensitive nerves by touching the lips and cheeks. The intact penis has both fine touch nerves and pressure sensitive nerves. Unfortunately, circumcision removes much of the fine touch nerves and if the shaft skin is tight, prevents the proper stimulation of the pressure sensitive nerves.

Burnout

by Tally on November 27, 2009
Visit http://www.mindfood.com/at-burnout-psychological-physical-damage-overwork.seo

An article that discusses burnout and compares it to overwork, which is less of an issue. Overwork is the result of working too many hours, a kind of physical exhaustion that can usually be diffused by simply going on holidays or sitting on a beach, whereas burnout happens at
a deeper psychological level.

Langerhans cells limit HIV invasion

by Tally on November 27, 2009
Visit http://jcb.rupress.org/content/177/1/5a.full

Note published in The Journal of Cell Biology, Vol. 177, No. 1, 5 (March 2007), doi:10.1083/jcb.1771rr5, refers to de Witte* study in Nat. Med. doi:10.1038/nm1541. Further research shows that a suspected entry route for HIV is a dead end. Langerhans cells, rather than transmitting the virus to T cells, trap HIV-1 and thus act as a barrier to infection. The foreskin of the male penis has Langerhans cells, but they are removed, along with the foreskin, during circumcision.

Neonatal circumcision: Effects on breastfeeding and outcomes associated with breastfeeding

by Tally on November 26, 2009
Visit http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1440-1754.2007.01202.x/abstract

Study published in Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, Volume 44 Issue 1-2, Pages 44 - 49, 4 Sep 2007. The study documents a longitudinal study of over 1000 individuals born in Christchurch New Zealand in mid 1977. The authors concluded, "There was no evidence of an association between neonatal circumcision status and breastfeeding outcomes, or between circumcision status and health and cognitive ability outcomes associated with breastfeeding, and the findings do not support the view that neonatal circumcision disrupts breastfeeding."
