Intactivism: March 2013 in Review

by Tally on March 31, 2013 Bookmark and Share

2013 Genital Integrity Awareness WeekAnother year has gone by and I still have not made it to Genital Integrity Awareness Week in Washington, DC. *sigh*

Eventually, I need to get caught up with my work so I can have more time to more of the intactivist work I want, like go to one of the many intactivist events.

I still have not yet found time to provide weekly updates. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past month. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

Your Tango: How Circumcision Affects Sexual Pleasure [EXPERT]
Mommy's Dirty Little Secret: Penis Talk: Circumcision, How And Why It Affects Sexual Pleasure
Acknowledgement from those in the sex education field, it is well-known that male circumcision reduces sexual pleasure for both the circumcised man and his partner. Not that sex is bad for circumcised guys, it is not. But it is not as good as it could be for most of them. The foreskin offers a lot for men. It is erogenous tissue that feels good. The gliding action of the foreskin changes the sexual dynamic and aids both the man and the woman.

Pediatrics: Cultural Bias in the AAP’s 2012 Technical Report and Policy Statement on Male Circumcision
European doctors respond to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Task Force on Circumcision in a new article published in Pediatrics: "The ... claimed health benefits, including protection against HIV/AIDS, genital herpes, genital warts, and penile cancer, are questionable, weak, and likely to have little public health relevance in a Western context, and they do not represent compelling reasons for surgery before boys are old enough to decide for themselves."

Circumcision Blog: His Body, His Choice
Elephant Journal: His body, His Choice
A woman tells of growing up with a brother and how she first say a penis. She describes seeing her first intact penis. By that time, she knew in her heart that male infant circumcision was wrong. Before her first son was born, she knew he was going to remain whole and intact.

The Gloss: Foreskin is Great
A woman tells how she came to appreciate a man who is intact, that is, not circumcised. She thinks giving a man a handjob is fun and easy when he has a foreskin. She has never encountered a dirty man. She says, "foreskin is awesome!"

The TimesHerald.com: Protesters decry infant circumcision
Members of Intact Michigan protest routine infant circumcision at a local hospital. This was the month of protests. Intact Michigan demonstrated to make those in Port Huron, Michigan, aware of the harm caused by male infant circumcision.

Mogis und Freunde: Why I am sueing the orthodox Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal for having a circumcision performed on his son
A German blog (in English) about a lawsuit against a Rabbi who circumcised a boy using the Metzitzah B'peh ritual. Metzitzah B'peh involves using oral suction on the circumcision wound. German law requires that all surgeries be performed in a medical manner, using accepted medical techniques. He claims that oral suction of a freshly circumcised penis is not an accepted medical technique as required by law.

Dr Momma peaceful parenting: Genital Integrity Awareness Week 2013 Sponsors
A post about the 20th Annual Genital Integrity Awareness Week (GIAW) to be held in Washington, DC, to celebrate the anniversary of the female genital mutilation (FGM) act and to advocate for protecting baby boys from male genital cutting, aka circumcision. Supporting the demonstration costs money and all donations are welcome. Remember, next year is coming up.

American Secret: “He won’t remember”, Circumcision, Pain, and Age Discrimination
While filming an anti-circumcision movie, the film maker describes an encounter with a man who says he does not remember the pain of his infant circumcision. We all understand that children and adults feel pain. Many say that they cannot imagine getting a circumcision as an adult because of the pain. But when it comes to infants, it is too easy to justify pain by thinking that an infant will not remember it. But just because pain is not remembered does not mean it is acceptable. We do not accept drugging women for rape, even though they will not remember their rape. Why do we accept surgery pain for infants. They may not remember the actual pain, but they are still affected. Every time I look at my penis I see the circumcision scar and am reminded that part of my body was removed without my consent.

The following is the pitch reel for American Secret:
