Intactivism: Week in Review July 31, 2010

The WHOLE Network: Keeping children genitally intact without circumcision or unnecessary surgerySay no to circumcision.  Support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

A recent development is the Whole Network, which has a page on Facebook. The Whole Network is a grassroots network aimed at keeping newborns WHOLE by providing accurate information about the foreskin and the benefits of remaining intact. First there was Intact America. Now, intactivists are starting state-specific websites for keeping babies genitally intact, for example, Intact Georgia.

Male Circumcision and HIV website reports on current events relating to genital mutilation and HIVSupport genital integrity -No more circumcision. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

The news this week is that the International AIDS Conference was held in Vienna, Austria. Unfortunately, too many are calling male circumcision a proven measure to combat HIV. But, there has not been any followup studies to "prove" that male circumcision has any impact on HIV infection rates. With all the men that have already been circumcised in Africa, evidence of the efficacy of male circumcision with respect to the HIV rate should be readily available. The evidence for any "proven" method should be mounting. The absence of such evidence is telling.

Sunday Nation: Circumcision not enough to stop HIV, experts warn experts
Although circumcision has been touted as one of the ways to prevent HIV infection, recent findings show an increase in HIV infection in regions where most males are circumcised. According to findings of the Kenya Aids Indicator Survey (Kais) released last week, North Eastern and Coast provinces, where 97 per cent of males are circumcised, registered an increase in HIV prevalence. Say no to circumcision - support intactivism. The following list includes blogs, articles, and websites of interest to Intactivists that were published in the past week. This is a running tally of the ones I found interesting.

This week has not seen many intactivist posts. It may be that the heat wave across the United States has kept intactivists busy doing other things, like keeping cool.

Parents, respect the genital integrity and autonomy of your children

Be wise, don't circumciseI am an intactivist because I want to see the day when parents respect the genital integrity and autonomy of their children. If surgery is not medically necessary to correct a birth defect or disease, then the child should not be cut, period.

I am a son who was circumcised shortly after birth. I do not like it. I hate my circumcision. Many young men who were circumcised also do not like that part of their sex organ was cut off. Thanks to the Internet, more young men are learning what circumcision does. It removes erogenous tissue from the penis. The foreskin is there for a reason and these young men are upset that it was removed before they were old enough to object. Read more . . .

Overcoming a botched circumcision (skin bridge)

Circumcision is risky and has complicationsWhere to begin.....

I was circumcised as a child like most men of my age, however; it was botched. Most of my life I grew up with a rather large skin bridge about 3/4's of an inch in length on the left side of my penis. It connected my shaft skin to the coronal edge of the head of my penis much like a picture I found on circumstitions.com.

My Penis looked pretty much exactly like one of those pics (see pic at bottom of page), except on the left side. I grew up feeling deformed because my younger brother didn't look like this at all. I was always very self conscious about it and was quite secretive. Also masturbation growing up was painful as the bridge would get very sore. All in all, quite annoying. Read more . . .
