The American Urological Association developed a BPH Symptom Index Questionnaire that gives you an idea if there is a prostate problem. The questionaire calculates the AUA BPH Symptom Index Score that is often used by urologists to determine the severity of prostate problems.
Take the test. Over the past month, --
how often have you had the sensation of not emptying your bladder completely after you finished urinating?
how often have you had to urinate again less than two hours after you finished urinating?
how often have you found you stopped and started again several times when you urinated?
how often have you found it difficult to postpone urination?
how often have you had a weak urinary stream?
how often have you had to push or strain to begin urination?
how many times did you most typically get up to urinate from the time you went to bed at night until the time you got up in the morning?
Not at all = 0
Less than 1 time in 5 = 1
Less than half the time = 2
About half the time = 3
More than half the time = 4
Almost always = 5
A total score of 0-7 is mild BPH, 8-19 is moderate BPH, and over 20 is considered severe BPH.
